Titus Ekiru wins Africa Games half marathon title

Reigning Milano marathon champion Titus Ekiru won All Africa Games Half marathon title ran today in Rabat, Morocco.

The former Honolulu marathon champion made history as the first Kenyan runner to win the 21km distance at the games that kicked off last week.

The 2018 Mexico City marathon winner timed 1:01.42 for the title ahead of Moroccan Reda Elaaraby and Hamza Sahli who finished second and third in 1:02:44 and 1:02:45 respectively as Morris Munene (1:02:51) and Panuel Mkungo (1:03:10) in 4th and 5th positions.

But Kenyan women athletes were outsmarted by arch rivals Ethiopia sweeping the podium.

The best Kenyan runner was Hellen Jepkurgat (1:12:29) and Grace Kimanzi (1:13:16) to finish fourth and fifth respectively in a race won by Yehualaw Yalemzerf in 1:10:26 with compatriots Degitu Azimeraw and Meseret Belete returning 1:10:31 and 1:12:08 for silver and bronze respectively.
