Top athletes are set to battle for honours at the inaugural Rimoi Kapnarok Half marathon in Elgeyo Marakwet County to conserve under threat Rimoi Forest.
Some of the athletes for the event at KEELLU Resort are 2017 Rio half marathon champion Titus Chepkirui and former Chemususu Dam half marathon champion Nancy Kimaiyo.
The duo will headline the race that has attracted over 1,000 athletes in both gender set for Sunday under the Keiyo hanging valleys.
Iten based Chepkirui was optimistic of carrying the title since it is run at home while Kimaiyo from Baringo trains in the region.
“Running at home, gives you morale always wanting to prove that you are able to win both at home and at the world events. Therefore, my preparations entails running a good race and carry that title home,” said Chepkirui.
Kimaiyo will be leading women’s race to run her way to stardom. The runner has dominated both local and international races including her second finish at Ndakaini Half marathon, 5th at 2018 kakamega marathon among others.
“I train in Iten and the race will be competed almost the same area and that will give me good training ahead of major races. I have to ensure I do my best to claim the title on home land,” said Kimaiyo.
