Top runners to line up for Chebara Dam half marathon

Chebara half marathon dubbed ‘Chebara Dam Conservation Run’ returns this Saturday in Elgeyo Marakwet County as elite and untested athletes face off for top prizes.

The 21km will start at Kaptomut Primary school before ending at the Chemtongei shopping centre.

With the winner pocketing kshs 50,000, race organisers led by North Rift Athletics Kenya Public Relations Officer Boniface Tiren said that they will be expecting a large turn.

“We will be rewarding top ten finishers in all races meaning many athletes will be yearning to make it to the top of the table to ensure they carry something home,” said Tiren.

The race, which enters its third year, athletes will be running in a county called Home of Champions due to its availability of runners across the county.

“We have registered a number of runners and we are hoping the battle will be top gear because this is a running county,” said Tiren.

Apart from the half marathon as the main event, their shall be 6km and 8km junior women and men cross country, with the focus on school going students while seniors will be competing in 10km for both men and women.

“We will also be having 2km for the elderly people in the society. For them to qualify for the 2km, he or she should be 50 years and above with prove,” added Tiren.
