Tuwei leads Kenyans in mourning the death of Monica Chirchir

Athletics Kenya President Jack Tuwei has led the athletics family in mourning the death of track mistress Monica Chirchir who passed on today.

The 10,000m runner who represented the country at the All Africa Games succumbed to cancer in Kimalel, Baringo County on Saturday.

The 23 year old had been battling the disease since last year and had stopped training after competing for Kenya at the 2019 African Games in Rabat, Morocco, finishing sixth in 10,000m in a time of 32:43.63.

Tuwei condoled with the family, terming the death as unfortunate because she died at a young age when her career was just taking off.

Burial arrangements are ongoing at her parents’ home in Kipkaech in Baringo County.
