Making their debut in the National Super League (NSL), Soy United has hopes of registering good results when the league whistles off this weekend.
The Kakamega based team defeated Mully Children Family (MCF) to qualify for second-tier football league in the country.
Following the win, Soy joins Silibwet who led Zone B and Mwatate who won Zone A. The winners of each zone automatically qualify to the NSL.
Soy head coach Samuel Twago is optimistic that the team will perform well and gain promotion due to their massive preparations.
“We have been training well ahead of the league and we have confidence of good results,” said Twago during his training.
He said that football is football if well played and they are making all means possible to secure best results after beefing up various departments.
“We know the challenges of playing at NSL and we have beefed our departments, where we saw some weaknesses,” said Twago.
Soy, which will be using Bukhungu stadium as their home ground will be considering playing at the Eldoret ASK Showground since Bukhungu is far from Soy, their training base.
“We have a long journey in NSL, travelling from here to Mombasa but we have to ensure that we play all players to gain that experience, praying that no injuries will occur in the team. Injuries kill the morale,” said Twago.
With squeezed fixtures, Twago pointed out that with lack of good preparations, securing points won’t be easy at all.
“We shall be playing on weekends as well as midweeks to end the fixtures on time. Considering that the league has started late and has to end within that time frame,” explained Twago.
They will open the league with Nairobi Stima at Camp Toyoyo ground on Saturday
In other NSL fixtures, former KPL Chemelil Sugar will host Shabana FC, debutants Silibwet Sony Sugar.
