Twelve Teams register for inaugural Koitalel rugby sevens tournament

Kenya Rugby Union Championships side Western Bulls and University of Eldoret (UoE) side Trojans will be the star attraction at the weekend’s inaugural Koitalel Rugby sevens to be staged at Nandi Bears Golf Club.

The teams, which have dominated local and national meetings will be chasing for the title that has attracted 12 teams from across the country with the tournament being staged in Nandi County

Western Bulls from Kakamega hasa been pooled together with former national rugby side Eldoret RFC of Uasin Gishu in pool C and Malakisi RFC from Bungoma County.

Tournament director Ali Mbaraka said some teams have already arrived for the tournament and they are expecting a competitive showdown in the land well known for athletics.

With no rugby action across the country, Ali said the place will be filled with fans to enjoy the tournament.

“All systems are in place for the tournament to kick off. The tournament has attracted 12 teams which is good for the start and we wish to urge fans to turn up in large numbers to cheer our players,” said Ali.

Moi University side The Arsonists leads pool A with Kaimosi Friends from Vihiga County as well as Eldoret Falcons from uasin Gishu.

Championships side Kitale from Trans Nzoia will battle out with UoE’s Trojans and hosts Nandi Bears RFC in pool B and new comers Chomoka leads pool D with Eldoret Polytechnic and Flames RFC as Wakulima RFC is standby team.

“We want this tournament to be an annual event and make it attractive to top clubs across the country,” added Ali.
