Unhappy athletes protest over lack of training ground

Christened Home of Champions due to the budding athletes every time, the name has lacked meaning after athletes complained for lack of training ground to nurture others.

Experienced athletes joined young ones I today’s demonstration, protesting lack of such facilities as they prepare for athletics events across the world.

Headed by triple Linz marathon winner Elias Kiptum, the athletes protested lack of an alternative training ground after closure of Kamariny stadium in Iten for renovation.

“Nurture athletes are finding it hard to travel to Eldoret, Tambach and other areas to train ahead of world under 20 championships to be hosted in Kenya,” said Kiptum.

After closing Kamariny, they were offered Kaptingo primary school training ground but it remains unmarked and leveled.

“Kaptingo is in bad state, full of dust and unleveled but we are leveling and marking ourselves,” he added.
