Fresh from winning Safaricom Iten 10km road race, former Barcelona marathon champion Valary Aiyabei Jemeli won the Beijing marathon title becoming the fist ever Kenyan woman to win the title.

Started in 1989, Kenyans had failed to make it to the podium in the Chinese Capital and Jemeli, the 2014 Kass marathon champion broke the jinx with 2:21:38 win to end Ethiopian dominance, running the fourth fastest in the history and the quickest mark since 2005, but is two minutes shy of the 2:19:39 course record set by Sun Yingjie in 2003.
paced by her husband Kenneth Tarus, Jemeli defeated Kenyan born turned Bahrain Eunice Chebichi Chumba to second with a 2:26:56 after breaking away at 15km mark
Ethiopia’s Fatuma Sado finished third in 2:27:41.
