Vihiga Queens and Kibera Women to battle for maiden FKF Women Cup with dates changed

Former Kenya Women premier league champions Vihiga Queens and Kibera Soccer Women will be chasing their maiden FKF Cup title.

The final, originally scheduled for Saturday, June 14 at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, has been postponed by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to allow the national women’s team, Harambee Starlets, to participate in the 2025 CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship, which kicks tomorrow in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Kibera, making their maiden final play, head coach David Vijago will be looking to surprise their opponents, who have dominated the league for long but missed out on FKF Cup after falling to Ulinzi Starlets that won the title thrice.

His counterpart Vihiga Queens head coach Boniface Nyamunyauh is confident he will win the title.

Vihiga has three players in the Starlets team at CECAFA led by Alice Mideri, Martha Karani Amunyolete, and Swaum Masungo while Kibera has four players led by Faith Mboya, Janet Mumo, Vivian Shiyonzo, and Medina Abubakar.

This year’s cup will see new champions crowned after three-time winners Ulinzi Starlets were knocked out in the quarterfinals following a 4-3 loss to Kibera Soccer Women in a penalty shootout.

Nairobi based Kibera beat newly crowned FKF Women’s Premier League champions Kenya Police Bullets 2-0 on Sunday at Dandora Stadium to book Vihiga who beat Bungoma Queens 2-1 at the Mumias Complex.

There will be no third-place playoff, meaning Bungoma Queens will not face Kenya Police Bullets, the current league champions.
