James Waindi triumphed against Chris Mbaisi to win the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) President’s position following today’s elections held at the Nyayo National stadium.
The veteran journalist and the People Daily Sports Editor garnered 37 votes to defeat the incumbent Mbaisi, the Star Newspaper sports edito who managed 26 votes.
This was the third attempt for Mbaisi, who is the Africa vice president, with the new office having new holders dubbed “Nguvu Mpya.”
In other results in the elective posts, Homeboyz radio Eric Njiru was elected vice president after edging out Pulse Media’s James Magayi of with 34 votes against 27.
Former citizen TV’s Mukami Wambora was elected treasurer with 35 votes against incumbent Alex Isaboke of Capital FM by 28.
The Star newspaper reporter Samson Ateka retained his position as Organising Secretary.
Agnes Makhandia (Nation Media Group (48 votes), Geoffrey Mwamburi of Citizen Radio (36), Ahmed Abulla of K24 TV (40) and Charity Wanja, a freelancer, (27) were the four Executive Committee members elected.
The position of Secretary General still remains vacant following the exit of Citizen TV’s Mike Okinyi where Moses Wakhisi of KTN, who was eyeing the Secretary General’s seat, was locked out of the post on technicalities.
