Wanyonyi set Monaco Diamond League record as Chepchirchir miss on world racord

Reigning Olympic Games 800m champion Emanuel wanyonyi and Femke Bol set world leading times at the Monaco Diamond League yesterday in France.

The world 800m silver medalist, Wanyonyi le from the start to the end, winning the race in 1:41.44, shading off 0.02 set by Djamel Sedjati last year ahead of Josh Hoey was second at 1:42.01 with Sedjati coming third with 1:42.20.

Kenyan Nelly Chepchirchir remained unbeaten after winning women’s 1000m title in one of the fastest times in history winning in 2:29.77 followed by American Addison Wiley who was second at 2:30.71 with Jessica Hull finishing third in an Oceanian record of 2:30.96.

Morocco’s Soufiane El Bakkali failed to shine in the men’s 3000m steeplechase as Japan’s Ryuji Miura won the title in 8:03.18 with a national record of 8:03.43 and Kenya’s Edmund Serem set a PB of 8:04.00 in third.
