Wario, now a free man

Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario bought his freedom after paying a fine imposed by Nairobi court for misusing Rio de Janeiro 2016.

Wario, who was convicted for misuse of his office was fined Ksh3.6 million in the afternoon corruption court Magistrate Elizabeth Juma when he was found guilty of abusing his office.

But in a few hours, Wario was set free after paying the fina and avoiding to be jailed for six years as the judgment was read out by Juma.

His co-accuser and former Olympics team leader and ex-Nock Stephen Arap Soi, has been fined Sh105 million, or he is to serve 12 years in prison in default

Soi sought to have his sentence and fine suspended pending appeal but the court declined.

On Wednesday, Juma said Wario took advantage of his office by sending Adan Enow, Richard Abura and Monica Sairo to the Rio games. Their improper trip to Brazil resulted in a loss of public funds
