Saniak Boys handball captain Humphrey Kibet is optimistic that they are ready to win and reclaim the Rift valley Secondary Schools Sports Association (RVSSSA) handball title.
However, the Nandi based school has alaid fears that former national champions Kamito Boys from West Pokot remains their main challenger for the trophy.
With four days of the most competitive school championships, attracting 14 counties, the championships kicked off today at the Chebisaas Boys as the individual schools and disciplines search for single titles to the national championships set for Mombasa next month.
Playing in pool A, the Nandi based Saniak edged out Kericho Day 31-16 with Captain Humphrey Kibet saying they are determined to defend their title.
“We here to win, we are confident to retain our title though Kamito will be our equal challenger whom we ready for them,” said Kibet.
At the same time, former Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association handball girls champion St Joseph’s, Kitale edged out Anin from Elgeyo Marakwet county 54-13 in their pool B opener.
Captain Tebby Nalia saying they are targeting to win all their matches and improve on some mistakes.
“We are targeting to win, in our next matches we are going to improve on speed.” Said Nalia.
In other handball boys matches Kabartonjo of Baringo defeated Siwot from Bomet in pool C 26 -20. While in pool B girls Rongena from Narok defeated AIC Moi girls from Samburu 22-9.
In hockey boys pool A the host Chebisaas were held to a barren draw with Ndururumo from Laikipia.
On Thursday and Friday there will be Athletics activities starting 5000m Race walk girls thereafter track and field events at the University of Eldoret pavilion
