A sudden death try by Kevin Wekesa earned Shujaa, the national sevens team the Challenge Trophy after beating hosts Spain in yesterday’s Seville Sevens.
Wekesa was key man as Shujaa won 24-19 to hand Kenya the Challenge title Estadio de La Cartuja where the Innocent Simiyu led side finished 9th collecting eight points.
Kenya and Spain had locked at 19-all in regular time following Daniel Taabu equalizer.
Shujaa touched down first through Vincent Onyala before Anthony Omondi converting for a 7-0 lead but Spaniard’s Pol Pla touched down with Juan Martinez adding extras for 7-all.
After water break, Tiago Romeo landed the second try with Martinez converting for a 7-14 lead and Johnstone Olindi converting Jeffrey Oluoch’s to level.
Manu Moreno added another uncoverted and Taabu touched doen to level for sudden death play-off.
