Winfred Yavi outshine Faith Cherotich at Oregon Diamond League, Prefontaine Classic

Former Kenyan international turned Bahraini Winfred Yavi, for the first time in three meetings defeated Faith Cherotich at today’s Oregon Diamond League, the Prefontaine Classic in the USA.

Yavi nearly set the 3,000m steeplechase world record but the world and Olympic steeplechase champion cut the tape at 8:45.25, missing the world record with less than a second.

Kenya’s Faith Cherotich came second place in 8:48.71 ahead of Peruth Chemutai (8:51.77).

In the women’s 800m, Olympic silver medallist Tsige Duguma won the title beating South African Prudence Sekgodiso 1:57.10 to 1:57.16.

World champion Mary Moraa (2:00.51) and 2021 Olympic champion Athing Mu-Nikolayev (2:03.44) were the last two athletes to cross the line.
