Yosei seal hat-trick as Wanjiru shines at Prison cross country

Former Africa cross country silver medalist Charles Mneria Yosei and former Africa Games 5,000m champion Rosemary Wanjiru won the Kenya Prisons Service Cross Country Championships held today at the Prisons Staff Training College, Ruiru.

Targeting to represent the country at the Africa cross country championships, Yosei sealed a hat-trick in senior men’s 10km race.

The 24 year old won the title in n in 30:00.15 edging out Boaz Kiprugut (30:42.63) before 2016 Africa 10,000m silver medallist Wilfred Kimitei completed the podium in 30:44.36.

In women’s 10km race, Wanjiru won her maiden title in 33:43.53 beating former World Cross Championships bronze medallist Lillian Kasait to second in 34:17.01 with Gladys Cherono completing the podium in 25:07.24.

The 2017 World Cross Country Championships silver medallist Alice Aprot, who is making a comeback, settled fourth in 35:55.24 with defending champion Loice Chemining losing her last year’s glint for fifth in 35:58.52.
