Birdie lover Zubair Khan fired 16 over par 229 gross to claim the inaugural Moses Tanui Inter-Regional Junior Golf tournament held on par 71 Eldoret Golf Course.
As Nakuru based Doris Midena won nett title after carding 218 points and girls dominated the championships with Danny kiptoo of Eldoret coming third.
Khan, who scored the lowest gross, enjoyed the lead in all three rounds of play that started on Thursday morning and concluding today.
In his last round, the Muthaiga based golfer sunk seven over par, the highest gross in his tournament.He started with back to back pars on opening holes one and two par five and three. He bogeyed on four and five par 4, parred on five 3, bogeyed on 4thpar 4 recovered with pars on double pars on 7 and 8 pars 3 and 4 and ended first nine with a double bogey on nine par five.
In the back nine, the golfer who was part of Team Kenya for the 2018 Victoria Cup title win against Uganda, started on low with bogey on 11th par 3, parred on 12th(5), recovered with a birdie on 13th par 5, parred on 14th(4) birdied on 15th par 4, lost on 16th with a double bogey, parred on 17th par 4 but ended on high after he birdied on 18thpar 5.
Earlier on, Khan had fired six par 77 in the first round where he tied with Rishab Sagoo, added three over par on the second round to take the convincing lead to the final round.
He defeated home best junior golfer Sagoo to second with 22 over par 235 as Thika Sports junior player Emanuel Njunguna came third with 23 over par 236 losing to Sagoo with a shot.
Girls dominated nett category with Nakuru’s Doris Midena emerged victorious in the three rounds with a total of 218 points. She managed to card 78 points in the first round, adding73 and 67 in the third round ahead of counterpart Loise Akinyi who carded 219points. She had 75, 71 and 73 in the first, second and third round as Eldoret’sDanny Kiptoo completed the podium with 221 after firing 76, 70 and 75 points.
