Olympic 3,000m steeplechase silver medalist Hyvin Kiyeng easily won the 1,500m race during the final day of the 4th meeting of Athletics Kenya meeting in Eldoret on the muddy at the University of Eldoret (UOE) ground that delayed the start of the event on Friday morning.
In absence of former world cross country champion Agnes Tirop Jebet, who won the second heat before Kiyeng coming second, missed today’s final, giving an easy win for the former world 3,000m steeplechase champion.
With her focus to compete at Doha Diamond League next month, Kiyeng clocked 4:18.3 ahead of Meruem Akelang (4:20.0) before neutralized Yasmin Can of Turkey ended the podium in 4:21.9 as Naomin Jelegat was 4th in 4:30.8.
In men’s category, Boaz Kipkurgat won in 3:44.6 ahead of Sammy Kirong (3:45.1), Cyrus Rutto (3:46.3) and Calistus Ndiwa came fourth in 3:47.2.
Nancy Jelagat made her first win since starting athletics career. Running without a manager, won 10,000m women race.
Training in Iten, the Baringo born runner clocked 35.46.3 ahead of Hilda Chesir to second position timing 36.02.0 as Melan Chepleting (36:18.7) and Beatrice Cheserek (336:50.0).
“Am happy I have won today, yesterday I was position four which did deter me today, though I run as an individual hope I will get management. I will do my best.” Said Jelangat
Following in third position Melan Chepleting clocking 36.18.7, and Beatrice Cheserek came in third clocking 36.50.0.
In hammer women final Rebecca Koloso throw 46.35 meters but she is not attached to any camp followed by Rose Ragamba from National Police service throwing 43.72meters.
In shot put women Pelista Bosire from National Police Service was position one with 13.10 while Irine Akifuma from Prison was second with 11.54.
In Javelin women Damacrin Nyakeruri from Administration police throw a distance of 46.80 and was followed by Dorothy Jepngetich as an individual athlete throw 44.20.
