Kristian Tiren produced an impressive performance to clinch the Absa Bank Golf Tournament title at Eldoret Golf Club on Saturday, returning 41 Stableford points to emerge overall winner.
Playing off handicap 17, Tiren topped a competitive field in a tournament that attracted golfers from across the region, with friendly wagers among players in his flight adding to the excitement.
Tiren said he enjoyed a competitive round, particularly over the opening nine holes, where he combined a bogey, a birdie and several pars to build his momentum.
However, the back nine proved more challenging as rising temperatures and fatigue took their toll, while fast greens and tricky pin positions made scoring increasingly difficult.
Ken Serem, playing off handicap scratch, finished second with 39 points, while Wilson Kwambai, handicap 13, settled for third place with 37 points.
Karl Fernandes claimed the first-nine prize with 23 points, while Abel Sawe won the second-nine category with 19 points.
Victor Kwambai and Fransica Korir won the nearest-to-the-pin awards, while Serem and Susan Bett claimed the longest-drive honours.
Beyond the competition, Absa Bank reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with the region, with Director of Personal and Private Banking Moses Muthui highlighting Eldoret’s growing potential as a destination for health and sports tourism.
Muthui said the bank was keen to establish a long-term working relationship with Eldoret Golf Club, recognising the region’s growing profile in sports and tourism.
“After seeing your vision of the club, count us as your partner. Also, next year we will sponsor a golf tournament here,” Muthui said.
His remarks offered a major boost to the club’s ambitions, signalling increased corporate support for golf development and sports tourism in the North Rift region.
