Daegu marathon course record holder Abraham Kiptum and Edith Chelimo will be chasing the Media Maratón de Valencia Trinidad Alfonso the IAAF Golden Label Road race on Sunday.
Kiptum, with two time winner of Lagos marathon will face off with defending champion, the Kenyan born turn Bahraini Abraham Cheroben, the reigning world half marathon silver medalist.
Cheroben won the race in 2014, 2015 and 2017 and set the race record of 58:48 during his first victory as he faces toughest field ever assembled in Valencia as no less than 17 men have broken the 60-minute barrier at least once in their careers.
Kiptum who won Iten 10km road race is the second fastest entrant this season after his 59:09 runner-up finish in Copenhagen will marshal forces with fellow Kenyan Mangata Ndiwa, Simon Cheprot, Morris Gachaga, Solomon Kirwa Yego, and Jorum Okombo Lumbasi.
World half marathon record holder Joyciline Jepkosgei will not be defending her title as Edith Chelimo with Diana Kipyogei, Caroline Rotich, and Risper Chebet will be chasing the title against Ethiopia’s Buze Diriba, Gudeta Bekelech.
