KENYAN RUNNER Tabitha Gichia Wambui has been handed sevens year ban by Athletics Integrity Unit for tempering with anti-doping rules when she was tested positive for prohibetted substances norandrosterone.
The Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) unearthed her scheme of lies after Wambui had argued that she was injected with the testosterone booster at hospital where she was being treated for “a headache and general body weakness”.
Analysis of the sample, carried out established an adverse analytical finding (“AAF”) for Norandrosterone, a metabolite of Nandrolone, which is a prohibited substance under the World Antidoping Code (“WADC”) and the ADR which violates rule 2.1 and rule 2.2.
After thorough investigation by Adak it was established that Wambui did not attend the hospital on the said dates as her medical reports stated and the hospital had no record of her. The 37 year-old later admitted to this offence which resulted as a cover-up and tampering with the anti-doping process
Wambui was slapped with four years for the failed test and four for tampering, with one year deducted from the eight because she had earlier admitted to the offence.
The ban has been backdated to September 19 2021 and all of her results from that date have been disqualified, including victory at the Poznań Half Marathon in Poland on October 17 last year
Wambui failed to make to the Kenyan team in 1500m race in 2015 after finishing in fourth place during the World Championships trials that were held at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, Nairobi.
