The reigning world under 20 5,000m champion Andrew Kiptoo Alamisi will lead his training mates for tomorrow’s Athletics Kenya cross Country meeting in Kapsokwony, Bungoma County.
Alamisi, the 2023 Africa Under 18 3,000m silver medalist, travelled with his coach Erick Kogo alongside other top athletes from their training base in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County will be competing in the 8km junior men at the second leg of the national cross country series at the Kapsokwony High school ground in Mt Elgon.
He said that the event is part of his build up ahead of a cross country event in Italy next month.
“I’m praying to God to give me strength in the Kapsokwony race so that I prepare well for the Italy Cross country on November 17th,” said Alamisi.
Competing in the home area, the 2023 Commonwealth Games Youth Games 1,500m and 3,000m silver medalist will be competing in the first race after winning first gold for Kenya at the concluded World Athletics Under 20 championships in Lima, Peru.
“I will be heading to Kapsokwony to try my luck, hoping to add another glory on home soil,” he said.
Among his Newton Agency group includes Asbel Kiprop Rutto, Rodgers Murei, Kephar Namutala and Vinicent Tarbei for the men while women will be led by Marion Chepkoech, Regly Jemtai, Sheila Chepkirui and Faith Chepng’eno.
Alamisi is credited for winning Kenya her first gold at the 2024 World Athletics Under 20 championships in Lima, Peru in the 5,000m after clocking 13:41.14 ahead of Ethiopian Abdisa Fayisa (13:41.56) with Ugandan Keneth Kiprop winding up the podium with 13:41.73 as his season best as former world cross country junior champion Ishamel Kipkurui Rokitto managed 4th position.
