The reigning Africa Games Tennis champion Angella Okutoyi won the W15 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women’s World Tennis Tour held yesterday in Casablanca, Morocco.
The event, which was the final qualifying round for Olympic Games in Paris, France, Okutoyi did not make after losing in the singles at the quarterfinals when she failed to meet the top 400 in the ITF rankings before going ahead to win in doubles.
On her social media, Okutoyi was excited when she said:
The former Wimbledon doubles champion won the doubles title after successfully teaming up with her Ireland friend Celine Simunyu at the finals and went ahead to beat the Italian pair of Gloria Ceschi and Gaia Squarcialupi 6-3 6-1.
It was good news for the Kenyan who had lost in the singles title against Spain’s Paula Arias Manjon 5-7 7-6 6-7 in the quarterfinals.
