Athletes forms committee to spearhead Kiptingo track construction

Embattled athletes from Elgeyo Marakwet County have resorted in building Kamariny stadium to aid in their training.

The athletes who met in Eldoret over the weekend resolved that they will be raising money to construct the alternative training track at Kiptingo Primary schools following the closure of Kamariny stadium by national government for construction.

Led by two time Linz marathon champion Elis Kiptum and coach Kenneth Kibet, they have vowed to ensure they build the facility to promote athletics as the sport that has boosted Kenya as a nation.

“We want to ensure that we build this facility not for us but for future athletes. Kamariny, which offered good training ground is now grounded and we don’t know when it will be opened for us to train,” said Kiptum.

He added that lives of many athletes depended on the facility but their training is now in a limbo.
