Athletes protest Richard Tirop Kessio’s murder

Athletes and residents of Kipkorgot today demonstrated, bringing busoness to a stand still in the outskirts of Eldoret, protesting the murder of athlete Richard Tirop Kessio last night.

The Athlete was murdered alongside his friend Mathew Kimutai Kemboi.

The irate residents of Kipkorgot paralysed normal operations over increased insecurity in the area.

The busy Eldoret Kaptagat road on Thursday morning was a no go zone as residents protested the death of the duo.

Ainabkoi Deputy County Commissioner Nobert Komora said investigations had been launched into the incident.

“We highly condemn this cowardly act of taking away someone’s lives in such an inhumane way. We want to assure everyone that as security officers we are on top of this matter and very soon we shall bring the perpetrators to book,” said Komora.

Area Member of Parliament William Chepkut accused the anti-riot officers for excessive force on the protestors. He petitioned the government to beef up security in the area.

“It is the right of each and every Kenyan to demonstrate. However, it is very wrong for the officers who are mandated with ensuring their security resort to using live bullets and lobbying tear gas at them,” said Chepkut even as he mounted pressure to release some of the arrested protestors
