Discovery Cross Country: Over 3,000 athletes set to compete

Over 3,000 are set to compete in this year’s edition of Discovery Kenya Cross Country championships to take place on Sunday at Eldoret Sports Club.  with its 27th edition, race organisers led by founder Dr. Gabriella Rosa and local organising committee chairman Joseph Chemuren anticipating a large turnout compared to last year’s 2,600 runners.

 

While addressing media in Eldoret’s Sports Club, Rosa said he started the Rosa and Associati and so far it has brought many runners into limelight.

“I started this camp in 1991 and develop athletes. I like cross country and marathon so much. Come Sunday, we welcome all athletes, young and old to take part in the event that is where talents are discovered,” said Rosa.

He said once he started the camp, it wasent easy but he managed to stay that long in kenya.

“The cross country is a free competition where many young athletes come to run here as part of their training and joking. Everybody should come and we are expecting over 3,000 athletes will take part in the cross country,” added Rosa.

Race chairman Chemuren said preparations are complete and marking the field is complete.

“We are expecting a large turn- out compared to last year’s. We have organised for the buses to bring athletes to the competition especially young young ones. Our target is young athletes who will be our future,” said Chemuren
