Africa 100m record holder Ferdinand Omanyala and Olympic Games 800m champion Mary Moraa will lead Kenya team for this year’s World Athletics Relay Championships in Guangzhou, China.
Despite missing the trials held yesterday at the Nyayo national stadium due to his involvement at the Botswana Golden Gran Prix on the same day, Omanyala will team up with his young brother Isaac Omurwa Kundu in the battle for 4x100m relays set for May 10th to 11th.
The Athletics Kenya released the names after the national trials where Meshack Babu won the 100m title in 10.39 seconds, automatically securing a place in the team. He was followed by Moses Onyango Wasike and Kunduwho timed 10.47 and 10.49 seconds to also make the cut.
Apart from Omanyala, the 100m relays will also feature former national champion Mark Odhiambo Otieno
National 400m hurdles champion Wiseman Were Mukhobe will lead the 4x400m relays alongside experienced Boniface Mweresa, Kelvin Kipkorir Brian Tinega, Allan Kipyego, Kelvin Tonui and David Sanayek.
Mary Moraa is expected to lighten the women 4x400m that also features Mercy Oketch, Mercy Chebet, Chebet, Esther Mbagari, Lanoline Owino, Gladys Mumbe and Hellen Syombua.
Kennedy Tanui will lead the officials team alongside Catherin Kagwiria, Stanley Towett, Thomas Musembi, Simon Riga and Edwin Kiptoo.
