Top junior runners from two training camps in Nandi today benefitted from free food distributed by Atrhletics Kenya and the Ministry of Sports.
Athletes from Kapkeimur and kapkemuiyo were the greatest beneficiaries from the Athletics Kenya Stimulus package to cushion the needy athletes who were the probables for postponed world under 20 championships.
The journey started last week in Machakos, Nyeri, Baringo, Bungoma, West Pokot Elgeyo Marakwet and today they were in Nandi to deliver the good news to the two training camps in an exercise at Namgoi secondary school.
Barnaba Korir, the chairman of Youth Development at the Athletics Kenya said that the point is they wanted to meet those athletes who were in camp ahead of world under 20 where it was postponed till next year.
“We were to have a camp in April for all the athletes trying to make a team for the world under 20 and as a result of coronavirus pandemic we were not able to therefore we decided to assist those athletes who were in camps and those who were to be in camps in April to give them assistance so that they can continue training wherever they are,” said Korir.
He added that the programme was initiated by the federation in collaboration with government of Kenya through the ministry of sports.
“I must thank the Cabinet Secretary for Sports Amina Mohammed who has been in the forefront to ensure that the athletes across the country are given the assistance needed during these needy times,’ added Korir.
