Athletics Kenya set dates for Africa Games and national cross country trials

Athletics Kenya has set new dates for the Africa Games and world cross country championships following the postponement.

According to the communication from the federation, they said that the Africa Games national trials will be held between March 5th and 6th at the Nyayo stadium.

The trials were originally scheduled for February 16-17 but were postponed in honour of the late world marathon record holder, Kelvin Kiptum, who passed away on February 11.

Kiptum died in a car accident together with his Rwandese coach Gervais Hakizimana.

In a statement, AK said: “The event will be held on March 5 and 6 at the Nyayo Stadium. AK will select a team to represent the country at the African Games in Accra, Ghana.”

The African Games is set for March 8-23.

The national cross country championships have also been rescheduled for March 2 at the Kenya Prisons Staff Training College in Ruiru.

The event will be used to select the team for the World Athletics Cross Country championships in Belgrade, Serbia, slated for March 30.
