Karanga and Makokha to lead Kenyan amateurs at Magical Kenya Open

Reigning Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) champion Michael Karang and Kenya’s deaf amateur golfer Isaac Makokha will lead the Kenyan amateurs at the Magical Kenya Open that tees off tomorrow at the par 71 Muthaiga golf club.

Makokha from Vet Lab will be the first Kenyan to tee off in a company of Englishman Sam Hutsby and Spain’s Lucas Vacarisas.

The reigning Deaflympics bronze medalist during the Deaflympic Games in Caxias do Sul, Brazil as the first Kenyan to win a medal at the games will lead amatures like the captain John Lejirma, Michael Karanga and Josephat Rono.

The second Kenyan off the tee (at 07:30) will be Sigona’s Mohit Mediratta, who will be in the company of US pro Nicolo Galletti and Dane Søren Broholt Lind.

Mutahi Kibugu will tee it up from the first tee at 13:00 hours alongside South African Dylan Frittelli and Scottish professional Ewen Ferguson. This year’s Magical Kenya Open is the fifth on the DP World Tour in Kenya.

Kiambu’s Karanga will be hoping to build on last year’s season by recording 14 wins in all competitions.

Ranked position 76th in the world, also the Kenya Amateur Strokeplay and Match-play championships will be taking part in his third Kenya Open and fourth European Tour after gracing the 2021 Savannah Classic in Karen.
