Battle of titans at Masters Scrabble tournament

Kenyan Scrabble players head to the penultimate stage of Scrabble Kenya national series at the Annual Masters Scrabble tournament in Makutano in Kirinyaga this weekend ahead of World English Scrabble Players Association Championships (WESPAC) in Goa, India.

Players Patrick Nderitu Gitonga and Allan Oyende are the main players to watch in the two-day event that kicks off on 21st Saturday to 22nd Sunday at Journey Rest Hotel.

The Masters’ tournament will be followed by Nairobi event next month before the Word Worriers, the national scrabble team fly to India for the world championships.

Scrabble Kenya chairman Bernard Amuke said the weekend will be the start of a long Journey for players for the Annual Masters Tournament. With only one leg to go, Amuke said the tourney marks a good ending before heading to Nairobi for the last leg as the team departs for Goa.

“The team is well prepared for the masters club. This year we will take the competition a notch higher and everyone in the national team will be expected to play,” said Amuke who is also in the Kenya team for world championships.

The Masters’ tournament is an intensive tournament for the Premier division players. It gives them a chance to play tough games and build stamina and confidence for the World Championships which takes 4 days.
