Betika eSports set for next month

The second edition of the Betika eSports Showdown is set to take place on August 2nd and 3rd, 2025 at the Broadwalk Mall and will bring together the nation’s top gamers and rising stars for two days of electrifying action with up to Ksh 2 million up for grabs.

This year, the tournament will feature competitive gameplay across EA Sports FC25, Call of Duty Mobile (4v4) and Mortal Kombat and will welcome participants of all skill levels, with the goal of providing a competitive yet inclusive platform for gamers.

“After the incredible success of the first Betika Esports Showdown, we’re thrilled to take things to the next level with this second edition. Last year was epic, there was so much passion and talent on display and now we’re back, better. Kenya’s esports scene is on the ascendancy, and Betika is proud to be offering a platform recognizing and rewarding this growth, giving gamers the stage they deserve. We can’t wait to see new champions rise and legends defend their titles in what promises to be an unforgettable showdown in August,” said Betika Group CEO and MD Mutua Mutava

Last year’s winner Michael Ngwai, an amateur gamer from Mikindani- Mombasa County, is looking forward to defending his title in the second edition of the competition.

“Winning the inaugural Betika Esports Showdown was a dream come true, and I’m incredibly grateful for the support and recognition,” he said. “Last season was extremely demanding, and I don’t expect anything less this season. I will give it my best shot again.”

Ngwai, under the gamer tag Mcoasty, successfully triumphed over more than 1,100 amateur and professional gamers to take home Kshs. 500,000 and two-year worth of school fees for his first-place achievement, while Makuer Matur, Gamer tag Makuer clinched second place receiving Kshs. 350,000. Harry Thuku, Gamer tag HarryKappa, secured third place to receive Kshs. 200,000. Gamers who finished from 4th to 10th shared Kshs. 250,000.

The second edition winner of FC25 will walk home with Ksh 500,000, with the first and second runners up pocketing Ksh 250,000 and Ksh 150,000, respectively, as the gamer who finishes fourth will receive Ksh 70,000.

Call of Duty Mobile (4v4) winners will receive ksh 300,000 with the second, third, and fourth places earning Ksh 200,000, Ksh 100,000, and Ksh 70,000. Mortal Kombat winner will carry home Ksh 150,000, second place  Ksh 100,000, third place Ksh 70,000 and fourth place Ksh 40,000
