A new champion will be crowned this weekend when top amateurs converge to par 72 Kericho golfer club for Tea Field Trophy, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series ahead of 2023 Magical Kenya Open.
With defending champion Michael Karanga alongside John Lejirma, Adel Balala and captain Dennis Maara are out in Cairo Egypt for All Africa Golf championships, a new champion will be crowned after club captain David Biegon promising a tough challenge on the two-day tournament.
At Kericho, 64 amateurs will be battling for the title in the two rounds of 36-holes where it does not count for World Amateur Rankings, unlike the Kabete Open which was played over 54 holes.
Biegon, said that they are expecting top amateurs to battle for the title with all preparations done in readiness for the event that tees off on Saturday to Sunday in a 36-hole tournament.
“We are ready to host the event. Preparations are done for the weekend event,” said the captain.
Playing handicap 7, Biegon said that they are ready to host the large number of players in the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) event.
Kimeli, who has not played in many KAGC events, said that he wants to end the series in top ten position.
“This year, I have not played in many tournaments but my target is to finish in the top ten. I really want to play well in western Kenya meetings because of my commitments I cannot play away from Western region,” said Kenduiwo.
He added that he wants to gain more points to secure a better position at the end of the series.
He will be traveling down the valley from Nandi Bears to Kericho with other club members led by their leader Nelson Koech, Ely Barno and junior player Zadock Tanui, who has dominated in many tournaments.
“We always move and play as a team. We need to support our young people when it comes to such tournaments in nurturing many young talents that will turn up to be professionals in future,” said Kenduiwo.
