Big field for Kenya Seed golf tournament in Eldoret

Eldoret golf club captain Geoffrey Kitiwa has predicted a congested field at the Saturday’s annual Kenya Seed Golf tournament on nine hole Eldoret golf club.

Kitiwa, whose term will be coming to an end next month said he expects more than 100 golfers to tee off in the early morning tournament with an estimated four clubs that will be joining their hosts Eldoret golf club.

“As a club, we are expecting a big field of golfers drawn from the Kitale, Kakamega, Nandi Bears and the hosts Eldoret for a weekend full of golf. With such clubs coming together, we expect a big number and the competition will be so stiff,” said Kitiwa.

He added that due to the rain, the greens will be so good come Saturday where golfers will enjoy the tournament to the fullest

“As a club, we are happy that we have rain and come on Saturday, our greens will be good to host a successful tournament,” said Kitiwa.

Kenya Seed’s Senior Corporate Communication Officer Jane Gitau echoed kitiwa’s sentiments saying that the four clubs will give a serious challenge for the title in the annual series tees off in Eldoret before heading to Kitale for Kenya seed Classic that will take two days then they conclude in Nyeri.

She said that due to the coronavirus, they may not have as many series unlike in the past but the few meetings is set to attract many golfers.

“Our target is to meet our customers as well as farmers who have been promoting our company as this is the planting season for many parts of the country. As a company, planting and playing is a similar thing because it is so involving,” said Gitau.

She added that it is a reunion for the golfers after a year out of the greens due to the coronavirus as they are set to adapt new life away from the normal situation they have been used to in their interaction.

“It has been a while since we played golf and as the beginning of the series, we have to follow the ministry of health protocols, adapting into the new life, activities among other things. It is a change that we have to follow,” she said.

At the same time she said that as the opening series, four clubs are set to compete for the title since Eldoret is at the epicenter of all golfers in the region.
