Kenya’s Winnie Bii and Edwin Kimutai won silver medals yesterday at the ongoing All African Games in Accra, Ghana.
The USA based Bii and Kumutai jumped to silver medals in triple jump and decathlon respectively setting the records as Kenya’s first athletes attain such heights.
With her 13.64m, she lost the title to Nigeria’s Ruth Usoro who managed 13.80m while Senegal’s Saly Sarr won a bronze when she jumped 13.60m.
Kimutai garnered 7140 points in decathlon to win silver behind Algeria’s Dhiae Cherif (7550 points) and Egyptian Mahmoud Taher Abdelazim with 6643 points.
Kenya won a bronze in the 4x400m mixed relays after teaming up with David Sanayek, Mourine Thomas and Kennedy Kimeu who timed 3:18.03 behind the champions Nigeria who won the race in an African record of 3:13.26 and Botswana came second in 3:13.99.
