Top amateur golfers travel to Nyeri Golf club for the second leg of Golfer of the Year (GOTY) event this weekend as Mount Kenya Championships as par 72 Nakuru golf club will host Barons Park Golf Tournament on Saturday.
Overall Goty champion and meeting defending champion Kenneth Bollo together with former Kenya team captain Robinson Owiti will face off most competitive championships.
The Royal Club golf based golfer last year won meeting championships ahead of other top golfers and went ahead to lift the overall title after winning six out of 17 legs across the country.
He said as a defending champion he will face numerous challenges along the course but he will overcome them by winning the event.
“I know it will be a great challenge for me but my training that I have been doing, will serve me well and defend my title. The challenge will be great too as I will be playing alongside home club golfers,” said Bollo.
He was optimistic that the only way to silence other golfers is to play well and win the tournament and go ahead to defend his overall Goty title.
“Even if I don’t win the title, I will try my best to finish on podium since I have what it takes to o so,” added Bollo.
Owiti, will also be in competition to try and secure a win in the Mount kenya’s big tournament. The Vet Lab’s golfer said that he wants to play very well to lift the title.
“Today I had a successful training ahead of the championships to sharpen my skills. I really want to win this tournament since I have what it takes,” added Owiti.
At Nakuru golf club, golfers will be chasing for top places at the annual Barons Park Golf Tournament on Saturday.
