Road race specialist Emmanuel Bor and 2016 Africa Cross country bronze medalist Beatrice Chepkemoi were the winners of the third edition of Samuel Wanjiru Memorial 10km road race held today in Nyahururu.
Nandi based runner, who has been competing local cross country and road races won the men’s race timing 28:25.8.
As he prepares to compete at Central Rift regional championships ahead of national cross country championships in Baringo, Bor defeated Uasin Gishu’s Charles Kamau to second (28:37.2) and Simon Saidimu, running on home ground sealed the podium in 28:42.0.
A week after finishing second in the senior women race at the 28th Discovery Kenya Cross Country in Eldoret, Laikipia’s Chepkemoi was in a class of her own as she cruised to victory in women race unchallenged.. She won in 32:03.3.
Behind her was Kajiado’s Loice Chemuny 32:24.1. Sheila Chelagat of Kericho was third in 32:48.1.
The Nyahururu race is held in memory of the late Samuel Kamau Wanjiru who won Kenya first marathon gold, The race, held on a sunny windless day, started at Mairo Inya on the Nyahururu-Nyeri highway and ended at the Nyahururu stadium.
