Changamwe Ladies became the first team to qualify into the semifinals of the second edition of Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom tournament to be held in three weeks time at Kinoru stadium in Meru County.
The Coast based team was paired with North Eastern that failed to produce women’s team ahead of the nationals.
Changamwe will meet the winners of quarterfinal One where Acakoro Ladies from Nairobi will plays NCOED from Nyanza.
The tournament will witness new winners being crowned after reigning champions Kapenguria Heroes and Plateau Queens were eliminated in the early stages of the tournament. The winning teams will also walk away with KES 1 million in cash as well as phones and airtime.
The national finals follows a series of regional finals played across eight regions with over 1,600 teams taking part in the tournament that begun in October 2018 with group stages.
The programme was started with an aim of promoting grassroot football and propelling gifted players into the national team.
This year, an All-star team was selected from the 8 regional finals and attended a training camp in Spain during which they played against local youth sides.
From the inaugural season, over fifteen young players joined the Kenya Premier League and the National Super League.
