Eldoret based professional Golfer Boniface Simwa will joining other 42 local professional golfers at the Crown Paints Invitational golf tournament in the runner up to the KCB Karen Masters.
Simwa, who plays alongside his young brother nelson Simwa said he has put in more efforts to ensure that he makes good results in the tournament that kicks off on Tuesday 4th to 7th at Muthaiga golf club.
On Saturday, Simwa played at the third edition of Kerkeng Enterprise golf tournament as part of his preparations for the big event this week.
“Kitale has a big course, which is advantageus to me because Muthaiga is narrower. This is a course that you can use to prepare for any world golfing event,” said Simwa after he played 30 points in a tournament won by seventy year old Solomon Kariuki on 39 stable ford points.
On Monday, Crown Paints CEO Rakesh Rao presented a one million shillings as part of the sponsorship.
Crown Paints have been sponsoring amateur series tournaments in Kenya where they have played Thika nakuru, Nanyuki and Kaimbu as well as East Africa Nations before ending in Kitale in October.
With a prize money heading to Kshs 150,000 Simwa will be targeting to lift the title ahead of other big tournaments.
Back to Kitale, Kariuki stunned top golfers to win the third edition of Kerkeng Enterprise golf tournament.
He led top five finishers for home players with his 16 handicap beating Ali Babuh with 37 points as Babuh edged Clara Chesire and Dennis Plapan to third and 4th on count back respectively.
According to the organizer Stephen Malakwen said the tournament is meant to foster peace in the country and appreciate golfers who supported him all throught his reign as the captain.
“This is a family tournament meant to bring people together. Our target is to preach peace for a better tomorrow,” said Malakwen, the two time club captain.
On the commercials, Nandi Bears players were on top. Nandi’s Elly Barno and P. Terer were nearest to the pin and longest drive men while Faith Chemtai won the longest drive ladies.
