Reigning national rugby-fifteen-a-side schools champion Kakamega High school and Kaya Tiwi registered their wins in the opening matches of Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association term One at Kangaru High in Embu.
Representing western region, Kakamega thrashed Northern region’s Miathene 59-13 as Coast representatives Kaya Tiwi beat Nyanza champions Barchando 68-32.
The win put Kakamega in better side ahead of tomorrow’s second match. In other matches, Central champions Alliance lost 05:17 St. Mary’s Yala of Nyanza, hosts Kangaru went down 03:45 Rift Valley champions Menengai before Galana missed to make any any score against Upperhill 62.
Coming into the national games after ten years, Meru School beat Wajir High 102-34 in boys’ basketball.
Tomorrow, world under 18 walk bronze medalist Samson Ndigiti will be taking on track in athletics championships at Kigari Teachers Training College, Embu.
Ndigiti walked to bronze in 41:25.78 during the World U18 championships last year will be seeking to defend his national title.
There will be also 10,000m, 5,000m, javelin, long jump, 2,000m steeplechase (women), and men’s pole vault, discuss, triple jump, triple jump, shot put.
