Kenyan steeplechaser Beatrice Chepkoech won the second silver for Kenya at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia as hunt for gold continues.
Chepkoech won silver behind South African caster Semenya in women’s 1,500m who took gold for her country today.
Chepkoech clocked her personal best of 4:09.23 while Semenya won the title with Games record of 4:00.71.
That was the fourth medal for Kenya following another silver by Stacy Ndiwa in 10,000m after falling to Ugandan Stella Chesang. Two bronze medals from Edward Zakayo in 5,000m and 5,000m walk from Samuel Gathimba.
Semenya who took gold in 4:00.71, her maiden global title in the 1500m after faith Chepng’etich outsprinted her in last year’s IAAF world championships in London
Wales international Melissa Courtney sealed the podium with a bronze in a Personal Best of 4:03.44 before Kenyan Mary Wangari finished ninth in a Season’s Best of 4:05.88.
Chepkoech’s silver was Kenya’s fourth medal in gold Coast, in what is turning out to be a poor showing by Team Kenya. The country is still waiting for its first gold medal of the 2018 ‘Club’ Games.
