Mauritania recorded their maiden victory at the ongoing African Nations Championships (CHAN) against Central Africa Republic (CAR) at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium in Tanzania.
Ahmed El Moctor scored a vital goal in the 1-0 win to tally their points to four after three matches, recovering from a first match 0-0 draw to Madagascar, losing the second match loss to hosts Tanzania 1-0 to move into second position in pool B behind leaders Tanzania with six points awaiting their third match against Madagascar later in the evening.
The victory handed them a chance into the quarterfinal as CAR faces an axe from the championships.
