CHAN: How McCarthy’s Harambee Stars is plotting to tame Morocco’s Atlas Lions

Kenya’s Harambee Stars will be taking on Atlas Lions of Morocco in a do or die match in the third game of the African Nations Championships at the Kasarani stadium tomorrow.

Leading the table on four points, the Benni McCarthy coached side will be seeking a win that will propel them to the quarterfinals while Morocco will need a vital win to reclaim their title.

McCarthy said that the players are still recovering from their second pool A match against Angola on Thursday night where they drew 1-1 after a 1-0 victory in the opening fixture against Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Atlas Lions of Morocco present a different kind of threat compared to the two previous opponents.

McCarthy acknowledges that his charges will have to remain switched on lest the Lions pounce on them.

“We will have to be at our best for the entirety of the match because they are a well-organised team that likes to entice you to attack them and then hit you on the counter. We will have to remain disciplined and organised for the full minutes,” the former Porto striker said.

McCarthy is not overawed by these advantages, however, noting that it will be a 11v11 battle come Sunday.

The earlier match will be between Kenya and morocco at 3:00pm before Angola take on Zambia at the Nyayo Stadium at 6pm.
