Clement Mzize scored a brace when hosts Tanzania floored Madagascar in their third pool B match played this evening at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium in the ongoing African nations Championships (CHAN).
Mzize score the two goals in the 2-1 win for the hosts to top the pool with 9 points from three matches played, as the only team to have collected maximum points, making it to the quarterfinals.
He broke the deadlock with just 13 minutes into the match for a 1-0 lead before doubling in the 20th minute for a 2-0 lead but the Indian ocean island scored a consolation in the 34th minute courtesy of Mika Nantenaina Gregasse Razafimahatana.
With three matches played, Razafimahatana is the only player to have scored against Tanzanian goalkeeper Suleiman Ali after keeping clean sheets in the past two matches.
In the opening fixture, Tanzania were 2-0 winners over Burkina Faso before winning with a 1-0 over Mauritania and today’s 2-1 becoming the team with many goals in the tournament.
Next, the winners will face off with bottom table placed Central Africa Republic, who lost their earlier match to Mauritania 1-0 while Madagascar, who are in third position with a point take on Burkina Faso.
Mauritania has garnered 4 points in second position while Burkina Faso has 3.
