Chebet and Kasait in 1-2 podium finish in Riga

Commonwealth Games 5,000m champion Beatrice Chebet and former world junior 5,000m Lilian Kasait Rengeruk won gold and silver in the 5km women race at the inaugural World Road Running championships in Riga, Latvia this morning.

The world cross country champion won the women’s 5km, clocking 14:35 for a time just six seconds off the women-only world record.

Rengeruk, the 2017 world cross country bronze medallist, finished second in 14:35 for silver medal as Ethiopia’s Ejgayehu Taye, the mixed race world record-holder settled for bronze in 14:40.
