Fresh from winning 5,000m silver at the world championships in Oregon, former world under 20 5,000m champion Beatrice Chebet won the 6th gold medal for Kenya at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
The world cross country junior champion led compatriot Selah jepleting to bronze with Eislish McColgan, the winner of 10,000m earning silver, denying kenya’s 1-2 podium finish.
Chebet won gold in 14:38.21 with McColgan winning silver after clocking 14:42.14 and Jepleting settling for bronze in 14:48.24.
The Keringet based athlete had won the World Under-20 5,000m title in 2018, 2019 world cross country junior champion among other accolades.
She joins the likes of Ferdinand Omanyala (100m), Mary Moraa (800m), Wycliffe Kinyamal (800m), Abraham Kibiwott (3,000m steeplechase) and Jackline Chepkoech (3,000m steeplechase) as gold medal winners.
