Chebet retains title as Kiplangat settles for bronze at World Cross country championships

Commonwealth games 5,000m champion Beatrice Chebet retained her world cross country title during the championships staged today in Belgrade, Serbia.

In the 10km senior men, Kenya’s Benson Kiplagat managed to win bronze in 28:14 behind champions Jacob Kiplimo (28:09) from Uganda followed by Ethiopian Berihu Aregawi in 28:12.

Another Kenyan Nicholas Kipkorir Kimeli was 4th in 28:16 ahead of compatriot Samuel Chebolei Masai in 28:18 for position five.

Chebet edged out world 10km record holder Agnes Jebet Ngetich by leading the country to a podium sweep.

She won the race in 31:05 ahead of Lilian Kasait Rengeruk to second in 31:08) as double World 5,000m silver medalist Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi (31:09).

Emmaculate Anyango Achol was 4th at 31:24 with race favourite Jebet coming 5th in 31:27 leading Kenyans in 1-2-3-4-5 positions respectively.
