Double Olympic Games gold medalist Beatrice Chebet ended the year on a high note, setting the 5km Road Race world record during today’s Cursa dels Nassos race in Barcelona, Spain.
The 24 year old set a new record with a time of 13:54, destroying Agnes Jebet Ng’etich time of 14:00 when she set the then world record during last year’s Valencia Road race still in Spain.
As a double world cross country champion, Chebet won both 5,000m and 10,000m at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games this year.
She also holds the 10,000m world record at 28:54.14 during the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond league series in the USA.
Chebet was followed by Medina Is The Commander (14:23) and Belinda Chemutai completing the podium in 14:36.
In men, Matthew Kipkoech won the title in 13:28 ahead of Pierrik Jocteur Monrozier (13:28) and Abdessamad Oukhelfen in 13:30.
