Reigning Eldoret City marathon bronze medalist Jackline Chelal and upstart Wesley Kimutai reign supreme at the inaugural Community Cross Country race held over the weekend at the Eldoret Sports Club.
The duo won the 8km titles in a race organised by the Oak Tree Centre for Kidney and Chronic Diseases where Chelal won women title in 27:47.8 followed by Sheila Chepkirui (28:33.6) and Rebecca Chebolei (28:56.7) was third.
In men, Kimutai was victorious in 23:34.6 beating Shadrack Chesang (23:36.3) and Meshack Lelegut (23:38.7).
Amos Kibet won the 6km junior men title in 18:12.3 beating Sammy Kipkurui (18:54.0) and Godwin Marus (19:04.5).
In omen 6km category, Winnie Chetarus emerged victorious in 21:16.3 relegating Stella Asipitar to second in 24.07.3 as Caroline Kiptoo closed the podium timing 25:45.6.
Oak hospital director Mathew Koech said that they there is need for corporates should support the athletes and talents.
“We decided as a hospital to celebrate our five years since we started operating and instead of doing a celebration in the hospital, we saw it wise to organize a cross country event which brings everyone on board,” said Koech.
