Reigning world 5,000m silver medalist Margaret Chelimo crashed the 10km World record in today’s 10km Valencia Ibercaja Road race ran in Valencia Spain.
The track mistress won the race in 29:50 with the new world record, breaking one month old record that was set by former world cross country champion Agnes Jebet Tirop.
She defeated Norah Jeruto and Rosemary Wanjiru for the title who could not keep up with her pace.
the two pacers pushed Chelimo to the wire as she went on to destroyed the previous world record of 30:01 that had been set last month by Tirop who is also the 2019 World bronze medallist champion.
Chelimo led a Kenya 1-2-3 podium finish as she was followed by the newly crowned Diamond League Trophy winner in 3000m steeplechase Jeruto who crossed the line in 30:08 with Sandra Felis Chebet closing the first three podium finishes in 30:45.
In men, Kenya’s Collins Kipkorir Koros failed to pace against Norwegian Zerei Kbrom Mezngi to finosh second.
The Eritrean now trading for Norway gave a powerful kick with his long strides at the last 1km to leave Koros gasping for air as he crossed the finish line in a new personal and National record of 27:28
